Extreme hydrological events in the context of urban planning
Klimeš, Zdeněk ; Dráb, Aleš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
The purpose of the bachelor thesis was to describe known extreme hydrological events and potential attitudes to minimalize their negative impacts. The thesis was written as literature recherche from different points of view, not only from a one-sided technical or ecological point. It proceeds systematically from describing the historical evolution of the subject matter through the presentation of global ecological problems, outlining the legislative background and the findings from specialised literature, to the examples of current trends. In view of the fact that the issue is so broad, the thesis treats only certain parts in detail. The subject of interest is the demonstration of separate measures against floods and droughts and the effects of their synergy concerning the minimalization of the repercussions of extreme hydrological events.
Risk flood analysis
Krupinec, Jakub ; Dráb,, Aleš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis "Risk flood analysis" is the processing risk flood analysis on the selected location Thaya flow. Flood Hazard Maps, Flood Danger Maps and Flood Risk Maps for the flow of Q5, Q20 and Q100 are constructed based on available data in accordance with Directive 2007/60/EC. The work was processed in the GIS.

Finally, it evaluates the importance of flood maps not only from the perspective of insurance companies, but also from the perspective of others (people, companies etc.).
Commuting patterns of Czech households exposed to flood risk
Vikhrov, Dmytro ; Stojanov, Robert ; Duží, Barbora ; Jakubínský, Jiří
Using unique data collected in October – December 2012 we estimate the link between commuting to work and the level of household exposure to fl oods. Th e result suggests an empirical puzzle – individuals aff ected by only one fl ood are roughly 10% more likely to engage in commuting, whereas those aff ected by two fl oods are 13% less likely to do so. We explain the result by the fact that individuals commute to work to accumulate resources in order to decrease the household’s vulnerability to fl ood risk, amongst other reasons. When the fl ood risk is high, some households out – migrate, and stayers commute less, probably for similar reasons as why they stay. Further, we fi nd evidence in support of the “network eff ect” hypothesis – an individual with an active commuter in the household is 47% more likely to commence commuting.
Cultural heritage and flood
Nedvědová, Klára ; Pergl, R.
Floods impose a significant risk to buildings sustainability. Due to climate changes this issue becomes a topic for more and more areas. Among various categories, cultural heritage is especially vulnerable because its assets cannot be reproduced. This contribution discusses some resuts of the ongoing research project focused on protection of cultural heritage from flood danger. One of the crucial goals of the project is the design and development of a methodology and supporting software application for analysing building and materiál vulnerability to floods. During the research several experts from various areas of materials engineering contributed to an extensive knowledge base covering the most important materials related to immovable constructs, and movable objects.
